Stranger Things is back for its last season, and it has captivated audiences with its perfect blend of nostalgia and supernatural thrills, just as its previous seasons did, redefining what a modern sci-fi series can achieve. Fans are dying for volume 2, which will be arriving by Christmas.
In only volume 1, many things have already happened. The Demogorgon attacks Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy’s (Natalia Dyer) parents, Karen (Cara Buono) and Ted Wheeler (Joe Chrest), leaving them both seriously injured and in the hospital. This all happens before the Demogorgon takes Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) into the Upside Down. Jane (Millie Bobby Brown), better known as Eleven (011), chases the creature through a gate leading to Upside Down, where she would eventually find Hopper (David Harbour). Together, they embark on a journey to rescue Holly, only to discover a massive wall that surrounds the edge of Hawkins. Fans eagerly wait for volume 2, where they are left on many cliffhangers.
Fans were stunned when they found out that Will (Noah Schnapp) had superpowers like Eleven. Will stands out as one of the most tragic characters in Stranger Things, with his abduction in season 1 sparking a long journey of suffering. His final moments of episode 4 bring him his biggest triumph yet. As the heroes face off against Vecna and the Demogorgons, Will’s connection to the hivemind becomes a valuable asset. After Vecna calls him a weak target, Will overcomes his fears and discovers that he has inherited some of Vecna’s powers. Watching him defeat the Demogorgons that threaten his friends transforms him from a scared boy to a true superhero, making it an epic moment in the series.
In this new season is Kali’s return. In season 2, we discover that Eleven has a sister named Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), aka Eight (008). One of the biggest mysteries in Stranger Things has been about Kali, who was raised in Hawkins Lab by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) and has powers similar to Eleven’s. Although she appeared in a controversial storyline in season 2, where Eleven met up with her and her rebellious friends, she hasn’t been seen since, leaving fans asking themselves what happened to her. Surprisingly, in this season, Kali makes a big return, and it’s revealed that the power Eleven senses isn’t from the military capturing Vecna but from Kali, who is actually being held captive. This twist leaves a big role for Kali in volume 2 and the finale. Fans have created theories that the reason Vecna got his targets to see visions in season 4 was because of Kali being captured, making her powers transfer to Vecna.
Fans were in shock when a fan favorite, Max (Sadie Sink), came back on their screens. In the crazy conclusion of Stranger Things Season 4, Max’s fate left fans on the edge of their seats, as she became Vecna’s final victim, crucial for his plan to open portals into Hawkins and the human world. Although Vecna killed her and opened a gateway, Eleven brought her back. Still, Max remains in a coma, lying in a hospital bed, anxiously waiting for her to wake up. Season 5 starts with Max out of commission, but she isn’t absent from the action. While Holly is trapped in Vecna’s fake, perfect world, Max appears, revealing that she has been stuck in Vecna’s mind since the attack. It looks like she will play a vital role in rescuing all the young kids that Vecna has captured and locked away in his dark world.
This new season brings all the excitement and nostalgia the fans loved from previous seasons. The characters feel just as real and engaging as they always have, with the 80s vibe and new twists that have kept viewers on the edge of their seats. While every now and then some plot points were disappointing, the thrill makes it a must-watch series. Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 2 will be released on Christmas, with the finale on New Year’s Day.
