Now that the new semester has begun, students at North Creek High School are starting to settle into their new classes, routines, and expectations.
As the calendar finally rolls to another page and changes to a new 4 bolded numbers, students at North Creek prepare to dive headfirst into the fresh challenges and opportunities that come with the start of the semester. The hallways fill with conversations as many of our classmates and friends reunite for the first time in 2 weeks or more after winter break.
For most students, starting new classes can bring feeling of uneasiness or unrest, as it’s an opportunity to explore different subjects, meet new teachers, and reset their academic goals for some classes, but adjusting to new routines just creates added stress due to balancing the difference of classes and routes where Sophomore Atlas Knott says “I like my new classes, I feel loike they aren’t really that different. Going between the 3rd building and the 1st is kind of annoying. I’m looking forward to aviation class and running start next year.” This represents how the new semester adds stress, especially when it comes to balancing schedules, extracurricular activities, and social life between close friends and friend groups.
“I feel good about my new classes, but I don’t like how I have 2nd lunch on Wednesdays.” Sophomore Adit Ram said. This is just a small example of how new classes are making things different for some friends as they are getting separated or reunited because of new lunches.
Overall, a new semester can be a great start and bring, but sometimes it can add stress after giving a brief moment of calm as finals simmer down, stress starts to lower, and friends can take a second to breathe together before the year comes to an end soon.
