A fresh new set of acrylic nails can be eye-catching. Whether it’s colorful french tips, eye-catching colors with small gems or beads, or even a set with beautiful glitter details. Looking at these gorgeous nails, thinking for sure they were created by a professional nail salon. However, one would get surprised when Sophomore Josie Arnold says that she created them herself, as she displays a lovely set of acrylic nails and a warm smile.
Josie Arnolds is a nail artist here at North Creek High School. She has a passion for doing nails, and she is self-taught. She watched tutorials online, including YouTube videos, and kept learning and improving. “I mostly saw it on social media, and I just started to do it on myself,” Arnold said. “Then I started to do it on my friends’ nails”. She found tutorials online and used her creativity to learn the skill. Now, it’s a special passion of hers.
Though Arnold has other responsibilities other than doing nails, she is still able to find time between all her tasks “I have volleyball practice and homework, but I prioritize that first, and then I figure out when I’m free to do nails,” Arnold said. She mostly does her own nails and her close friends’ nails, but she does get new clients occasionally.
Sometimes, doing nails is more than just a job. Some people love to get their nails done for their birthday due to it being a special moment. Some of Arnold’s favorite nails she has done are birthday nails. “I always love doing birthday nails, and seasonal nails, like Fall and Christmas nails,” Arnold said with a smile. She says that her friends love their birthday nails. Birthday nails are held as a staple to the birthday culture, but when sitting in a circle with friends doing nails it makes that moment that much more special.
While Arnold has created a successful business for herself, she stated that she would “probably take it to college, but other than that, maybe in the future?” Arnold’s favorite part about her job is satisfying her clients. “I want to satisfy my clients. Instead of having them come to the salon, they can come to their friend instead.”
