As the sun sets on senior year and students prepare to move on from North Creek, the sun is only beginning to rise for other students still at North Creek. Whether it is moving into dorms or going to summer concerts, everybody has summer plans. Many seniors find themselves looking forward to a summer filled with adventure. “I’ll definitely be sure to spend time with my friends who are going to college out of state. I’m going to India for a wedding, so I also expect to spend a lot of time with my family. I’ll also be using this summer to prepare, figuring out what classes I want to take in college, what clubs I want to participate in, and how I want to decorate my dorm with my roommates!” said Smilangi Dasari, a senior going to UW Seattle for Computer Science this coming fall.
Seniors don’t really have the burden of working on school work or any projects, which is why they finally get to “rec[over] from some serious burnout,” and take a moment to “recover and rejuvenate for all that I want to do/experience in college,” said Archini Koushik, a senior who is going to UW Seattle Foster School of Business this coming fall.
While the seniors get to take a rest, one of the biggest hurdles of high school is approaching many sophomores and juniors: the SAT. “I’m taking the SAT in August. If I study the right way it will probably take up most of my summer,” said Amelia Wray, a sophomore at NCHS.
However, that is not the only thing occupying the ten week break between school years for some. “I’m going to Paris, we’re gonna go to the Louvre museum,” said Jada Douangpanya, a sophomore at NCHS. Although, traveling seems to be a big trend for many, some students are taking this time to reach their full potential in other areas. “I’m going to practice volleyball for the next school year. I also love going to the gym to workout,” said Sydney Mitchell, a sophomore, who did varsity volleyball at NCHS.
Many seniors are going to experience a sunset state of mind this summer, while others may be getting ready for their future. Job applications are in the process for a lot of the students at NCHS. For certain seniors, finding jobs is going to be a little part of their summer schedule. “I’m trying to find a job so that I have one when I go to college,” said Kalista Lance, a senior going to UW Seattle. Dasani, Koushik and Lance are going to dorm together for their upcoming school year in the fall. “We come back in the fall, we’ll get to decorate and everything. It’ll be like the top bunk of a bunk bed and then our desks underneath it,” exclaimed Lance.
“Honestly, I’m taking the SAT this summer because I know junior year will be so chaotic, especially with so many APs. And I have a lot of time to prepare for it beforehand this summer with my friends. I want to get it over with so that it’s not just lingering on my ‘To-Do’ list,” said Swarali Karale, a sophomore at NCHS. One thing that all freshman, sophomore, juniors and seniors have in common is having some type of summer plan. Whether it’s preparing for the SAT, doing summer school, traveling out of the country, getting ready for adulthood and college, or just relaxing and enjoying time in the present.
“I used to hangout with friends all the time so I’m really excited to do it again this year. And recently the sunny weather has encouraged my mom to start making hiking plans, something she’s always loved doing. This summer I’m ready to try new things and learn more about myself!” exclaimed Jayvyn Sherpa, a sophomore at NCHS.
