Homecoming is the one night every fall that every grade in an American high school can dance, play games, and have tons of fun. On October 12, 2024, North Creek High School got to host its homecoming in the school’s Commons and Gymnasium.
Many freshmen hoped that homecoming would go well. “I don’t know what homecoming is going to be like but I hope it’s really fun,” freshman Eleane Rocher Chanard said.
Some students ruined the vibe for new people who were hoping that homecoming was going to be very good. “I’ve heard some people say that it’s boring and bad,” Rocher Chanard said. “Right now, I’m only kind of excited.”
Some freshmen believed it would bring back memories, but maybe those memories weren’t the best. “I’m really excited. However, I think homecoming is going to be like my 8th grade party. It was really awkward and silly,” freshman Alika Yin said.
Homecoming gives students the opportunity to hang out with the rest of the school and have a great time. Students at North Creek had fun plans. “My plans are hanging out with my friends, going to Dough Zone with them, and then we are going to homecoming,” Rocher Chanard said. A common theme was most definitely having dinner with friends. “My plans are to go eat dinner and hang out with my friends,” Yin said.
This year, North Creek’s homecoming theme was “At Last I See The Light” which was a theme inspired by the movie Tangled. Although this year’s theme is cute, others think otherwise. “I think it’s cool but I heard others say that it’s bad,” Rocher Chanard said.
Although homecoming is a very exciting event, some were also excited for the homecoming football game and tailgate. The homecoming tailgate was hosted near one of the entrances at Pop Keeney stadium in Bothell, Washington at 5 to 6:30pm. “I’m really excited for the tailgate, specifically for the experience,” Yin said.
The tailgate had a variety of activities like face painting, cornhole, as well as just hanging out with friends and eating food. However, as a result, the tailgate didn’t really fulfill many’s expectations. “I think the tailgate went well but there wasn’t a lot to do. It was pretty small and I think many people were confused,” Yin claimed.
The tailgate led into the football game, where scores of people were leaving early due to the lack of entertainment. Once the game got started, many were on their feet and were cheering for North Creek. There were many taking pictures, eating food, and supporting their jaguar football team.
The next day during homecoming, there were a great host of people dancing, playing games, and hanging out with their friends.
While many were on the dance floor, the music was not a fan favorite, which caused an ultimate lack of energy on the dance floor. “I really didn’t like the music. They kept on playing the same songs over and over again and it was all like ‘TikTok music,’” Rocher Chanard said. “It also wasn’t as energetic as I thought it would be. Everyone was kind of just standing around.”
As homecoming came to an end, not very many were impressed. “I thought it went well but I was expecting better,” Rocher Chanard said. “Overall, I thought it went well and I was feeling pretty good.” “I actually think that homecoming was kind of lame,” Yin added.
