Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Peacock, Sling tv, YouTube tv, Apple tv, ESPN+ and Paramount+. These are just a few of the many streaming services that are available on the market for a chance to watch our favorite shows and movies. And each one of these has a price per month/year to pay. So what is the benefit to getting these online streaming platforms? And which one, if any, should you get?
Let’s put this into an imaginary scenario. Take a family of four, for example, the mom likes cooking shows and news, dad likes sports and news, the daughter likes Disney movies and the son likes marvel movies and sports.
If we are planning to get one affordable plan for the entire family, there are very limited options available. There is a few plans from Hulu, that meet the criteria; the Hulu (With Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (With Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads)* for $76.99/month or the Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (No Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads)* for $89.99/month. Looking at other services that fit the criteria, we see that the Blue Plan from Sling tv, gives a family access to 41 channels for $40/month with $25 off the first month, from which some of the channels are sports and news related, as well as cartoon channels. Finally, a plan that allows the family to watch all types of movies and shows, the Netflix Premium plan for $22.99 / month which allows all four family members to watch from different screens.
Therefore, if we want a plan that matches all of the criteria, we find none. The best possible option is to combine a few options of the streaming services. If we combine Hulu with no ads plan, a Netflix plan and a sling tv plan, the total cost per month would be 189.97 dollars.
With this in mind, is it even worth it for a family to invest in such a complex plan? Not to mention all of the passwords that come along with each separate plan, making it more infuriating every time one wants to watch television.
That being the case, I suggest a new idea that might not be so new; get cable tv. With the extensive prices that people have to pay to meet all of their needs. I can’t help but wonder if we should go back to our old and cheaper plans.
