After being up by three, with three seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars nearly had their first game against the Rams in the bag on Saturday evening.
That is exactly why the Jags were shocked when the Rams tied up the game 32-32 with a kick by #12, Nathan Zettle scoring the Rams three points.
This loss frustrated many athletes, coaches, and students who had packed the student section full.
¨I was really stressed out when we went into overtime and then we got a couple more points so I was like maybe we will pull through. And then we didn’t.” Said Anna Ringer. “I think if we keep going, our football team will definitely win a couple games.”
But the Jags won’t give up that easy. Coach Knox agreed.
¨I think the players worked hard and that they deserved to win,” Knox said. “We will be better moving forward. We are gonna come out this week and we are gonna play a better game.”
With that being the first game of the season for the NCHS football team, you can tell that great things are to come from this season.
“It was close the entire game, we had the spirit, and the fans in the stands were amazing.” Said #52, Landon Erb. “We lose. We gotta learn from it.”
The Jaguars started the second quarter ahead (22-15) and had high hopes of the possibility of their first game being a win. But after 2 touchdowns and a point after touchdown by the Rams and a touchdown and point after touchdown for the Jags, they started the fourth quarter tied 29-29. Jag, Landon Whalin, then scored a field goal with a minute and 47 seconds left on the clock which left fans’ hopes high.
But with only three seconds left on the clock the Jaguars were not able to hold off the Rams which led to the game being tied up and going into overtime.
The Rams won the coin toss and chose to defend against the Jags first. The Jaguars quickly got a touchdown which got fans’ hopes high.
But a penalty against the Jaguars for unsportsmanlike conduct set them back 15 yards which led to the miss of a field goal.
When it came time for the Jags to defend.
The Rams were able to get a touchdown, then they scored a point after touchdown giving them the winning point against the Jaguars.
It was a close game with the final score being 38-39 with a win for the Rams.
