Loki Series Preview

He’s died three times but he is back and burdened with glorious purpose. Starting June 9th Marvel is releasing the franchise’s third tv-series Loki on Disney+.

There has not been a lot of information released about the show, only a few trailers. And the cast members have not leaked any damaging spoilers/rumors. So all fans have is the two-minute and seventeen-second official trailer. Most fans are using the comics as inspiration for their fan theories but it is unsure how linked the two are.

In the Loki trailer, we see Loki being captured by an organization called the “timekeepers”. But they are nothing like Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. They appear to have no other ulterior motives other than to maintain reality “They protect the proper flow of time”. It looks like they are trying to fix what Loki did in Avengers: Endgame.

When Captain America, Iron Man, and Antman fail their part of the time heist, Loki disappears with the tesseract. Thus messing with the universal timeline and breaking reality. Like The Ancient One said in  Avengers: Endgame ‘removing an infinity stone from that reality will create split timelines dooming the one she is in.’ And Loki is no infinity stone but he is supposed to be dead. Seeing that he is not in fact dead, could mess with reality.

Though Loki hasn’t been the protagonist, usually he is just an anti-hero, it will be interesting to see the role he plays in this. From the trailer, it seems that he is going to be helping the timekeepers because they need his “Unique Loki perspective” to fix what Loki did.

Throughout the trailer, he is called a Loki Variant. It is unsure what this means but most fans are leaning towards the fact that there may be more than one Loki among the timelines he will visit. Considering the fact that there is a shot of Loki on the throne of Asgard like he was in the first Thor movie it is likely that will be the case. But it is confirmed that sometime during the series Lady Loki will be seen, which is Loki in his female form.

This is straight from the comics, Lady Loki appears in the post-Ragnarok comic arc. Loki in his female form was one of the good guys. It is unsure if it will be done as it was in the comics or if she will be a variant. It is also rumored that Loki will use his powers.

Loki can shapeshift since he is the God of Mischief (it is only fitting), but in past movies, he hasn’t done much including his powers. Though many have anticipated that he will show the full extent of his comic powers which include strength, durability, and longevity far greater than the average human since he is a god. He was the most powerful sorcerer in all of Asgard, even more, powerful than Frigga. His personal abilities include astral projection, hypnosis, shape-shifting, molecular rearrangement, energy blasts, levitating, cryokinesis, conjuration, teleportation, and telekinesis. Which makes him seem a lot more powerful than most may assume. So it would be very fun to see him exercise these alleged talents.

Adding on to his Lady-Loki form it is confirmed that Loki is gender-fluid since he can express both feminine and masculine appearances, he is also confirmed to be bisexual. This is an example of Marvel’s inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community. It is exciting for fans to see if he will get a love interest in this series, though it may not be likely.

The writer of this series is Michael Waldron, an American screenwriter, has inadvertently sparked some theories. In the future, he is going to be writing for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is exciting because Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki, is listed as a cast member. Since it is the same writer Loki may receive more screen time and become an important character. The name of the movie means a lot because it confirms that the multiverse will be opened by the time March 25, 2022, when the movie is being released. It is assumed that Loki will be helping Doctor Strange fix the timelines. Domino affecting another theory that the timekeepers fail in this Loki series.
